Grocery stores tend to place their "higher profit margin" items at eye-level on their shelves.
Therefore, most of the time the better bargains will be at the top or bottom of the shelves.
Also, end-of-the-aisle displays are great sellers for the grocery stores, but may not be as good
of a buy for consumers as the other products on the shelves. If the store can tempt you into believing that it is the better buy, they will make more money! Also, they realize that by
placing the item on the end of the shelf, it makes it more difficult for the consumer to compare prices.
Make out your grocery list BEFORE you enter the store. Then, once you are inside, stick to
your list of items that you need, but compare brand-names to the coupons that you have. You can then find the better buy within those items. Impulse buying can greatly increase your grocery bill!
Do not always assume that buying in bulk is the better buy. Sometimes, the medium-size
products are more cost-efficient, and if you have a store that doubles coupons, you may even be able to get the smallest sized item for free.
Don't be afraid to try new stores. Scan the sale pages for all the local stores every week.
Sometimes I end up going to 3 different stores to buy the specials they are having. It's a little extra driving, but I save a lot of money this way.
Save your $/2 coupons for when a store has a B1G1F sale - then you can legitimately use the coupon while saving the most money possible.
When you have a coupon that says "Save 1.00 on groceries when you buy ...." you can use a second coupon that is specifically for the product in the first coupon. It's legal because the
first coupon is a discount on your groceries and the second coupon is for the product.
Don't forget to get a discount card at every grocery store you shop at! These are free, can be
used in addition to coupons, and boost your savings!
tip #1 eat something so you are not hungry when you go to the grocery store!!!
tip #2 look in your area for discount grocery stores and shop there first. These type of stores
get items for a real bargain and they usually at least try to pass that bargain onto you. Example : I got a 2 lb. can of Enfamil powder baby formula for $8.00 b/c the label was upside
down on the can, in my area it usually runs $23.00. Hope they help, Laura
