Trading Coupons

Trading coupons is one of the easiest ways to cut big bucks off of your grocery bill. It is very simple to get started. First, you must try to gather as many manufacturers coupons as possible:

  • Ask family and friends for their extra coupons.
  • Buy extra Sunday papers to accumulate the coupon inserts.
  • Search recycle bins for coupons that others have discarded.
  • Contact your local newspaper office to ask for extra inserts that are left over from deliveries.

Upon gathering as many coupons as possible, sort through them; ALL of them. Cut out ALL of the coupons, even those for products which you do not currently buy or use.

Next, pull aside the coupons you intend to use, and make a seperate stack of the coupons for items you don't use (pet, baby, etc.). These are the coupons you can trade in order to obtain the coupons for items that your family does use.

You are now ready to trade your coupons. There are several methods of trading:

  • Via mailing list - Many people find it easy and more efficient to utilize a mailing list to trade their coupons. The Coupontrader is a great list to get started.
  • Via message board - Another great way to trade. Post your available coupons to a message board, then others can respond to you with what coupons they are interested in trading for. You make the trade smoothly online, and you both agree to send the coupons through the mail. Most message boards are based on trust. A trading reputation is VERY important; always keep your promises when trading, and send what you agree to. If you don't, others can file Fraud reports against you.

You can also offer your unwanted coupons as a "potluck", which is an assortment of coupons in exchange for something else.
